Members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, NASU, and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU at the University of Ilorin have joined the nationwide strike.
The two bodies declared the strike action after separate congresses at the main campus of the institution in Ilorin on Tuesday over four months delayed salaries.
Chairman of NASU, Zubair Haruna Ibrahim, said, “It is an indefinite strike action and until our demands are met, we will not report for work.
“The Federal Government ordered the payment of our four months withheld salaries and since then we have not been paid, even as members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, have been paid 50 percent of their own withheld salaries.”
Recall that administrative activities have been paralyzed following the strike action as members of the unions responsible for provision of essential services on the campus have stopped work.
On his part, branch Chairman of SSANU, Falowo Olushola, declared, “Until we are paid, we will continue with the strike action.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu pronounced that our money be paid since last year but up till now, it is still with the Accountant-General of the Federation.
“We went through the Presidency, Federal Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, and the Accountant-General’s office and till now, the presidential order has not been honoured.
“We have no other option than to down tools to press home our demands.”
