Protest: EFCC begins probe of alleged bank accounts of endorsers

Investigation begins as the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) begin probe of bank accounts of individuals allegedly endorsing the planned nationwide protest.

According to an anonymous efcc official, the agency has gathered information on the identified endorsers and has already commenced probe of their  bank accounts. He said the investigation aims to understand the extent of their involvement, especially if violence erupts during the protests, “We want to ensure that terrorism funding is prevented”, he added.

 

The source also revealed that the agency has flagged several bank accounts, many of which received funds from foreign countries.He further explained that the EFCC as tasked with this responsibility due to the sophisticated equipment at it’s disposal enabling a thorough investigation into the matter. “We have begun investigations on them in earnest. We want to know the real intention behind these transactions,” he said.

 

The anti-graft agency was allegedly directed to collaborate with the Department of State Services (DSS) to gather comprehensive details about the sponsors of the protest.

 

 

When asked about potential sanctions if the sponsors are found guilty, the EFCC official stated that the law would be applied appropriately, and the individuals would be charged accordingly.
