JAMB to persecute 3,000 fake graduates

Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) recently uncovered 3,000 alleged fake graduates.

According to the Minister of State for Education, Tanko Sununu, those found guilty of forgery would be prosecuted, a panel investigating degree racketeering in foreign and private universities had completed its report, he also stated that investigation is ongoing.

 

The minister asserted that forgery is a punishable offense, and the ministry will ensure due process is followed to prosecute all those involved, the fake graduates were part-time students who forged their admission to be regular students so they can partake in the National Youth Service (NYC) programme.

 

 

The minister also noted that the report of the committee has been submitted. FEC approval are also recommended, recommendations from a seven-member panel on degree racketeering would be presented to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) shortly.

 

 

Sununu noted that they cannot allow those who obtain certificates through the back door, lack skills and appropriate knowledge stating that they cannot add value to economic development and poses a serious danger.

 

Oloyede Is-haq, JAMB registrar had informed the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State Universities in Nigeria (COPSUN) that those involved in the act never attended classes, condemning illegal admissions by some tertiary institutions as a source of embarrassment. He also confirmed the investigation of the fake graduates.
