Davido drags Sophia Momodu to court over custody of daughter, Imade

Award-winning singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has taken his baby mama, Sophia Momodu, to court, seeking joint custody of their daughter, Imade.

In an originating motion filed at the Lagos State High Court, Davido’s lawyers, Dr. Olaniyi Arije, Okey Barrah, and others, prayed the court for an order granting joint custody of Imade to the singer.

Alternatively, they sought an order granting Davido unfettered and unrestricted access to his daughter.

The suit, marked LD/1587PMC/2024, has Davido as the applicant and Sophia Momodu as the sole respondent. In a 44-paragraph affidavit, Davido narrated the circumstances surrounding his relationship with Momodu, which ended some years ago, but resulted in the birth of Imade on May 14, 2015. Despite their separation, Davido claimed to have been responsible for Imade’s education, paying her school fees and providing for her educational needs without hesitation.

Davido also alleged that he had been providing financial support for Momodu’s rent and had purchased a N200m worth apartment for her and Imade, which she rejected. Instead, she demanded that he continue paying N5m annually for a rented facility.

The singer claimed to have bought a Range Rover Sport Utility Vehicle for Imade’s use, which Momodu rejected, and later provided another vehicle, Highlander SUV, and N5.8m for the repair of the Range Rover.

Davido accused Momodu of making outlandish demands, including payment of $800 per month for the nanny she hired and a lump sum of $19,600 per annum. He claimed that despite his efforts to ensure Imade’s well-being, Momodu had continued to show him “unwarranted cruelty, inflicting so much pain” on him.

This development comes after a history of disagreements between Davido and Momodu, including a public spat in 2021 when Momodu revealed that she was pained that Imade bore Davido’s last name instead of hers.
