NFF debunks Victor Osimhen ban reports, urges media to focus on facts

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed reports that Super Eagles player Victor Osimhen has been banned from the team.

The rumors emerged after Osimhen’s recent criticism of former coach Finidi George, which sparked speculation about a possible fallout with the team.

In a statement, NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi expressed surprise at the false reports, clarifying that no official decision or process has been taken to ban Osimhen from the Super Eagles. He emphasized that the NFF values transparency and communication, and would have made any such decision public.

Dr. Sanusi appealed to the media to collaborate with the NFF to resolve issues positively and focus on the bigger picture. He highlighted the importance of accurate reporting, urging journalists to verify information before publishing to avoid spreading misinformation.

The NFF emphasized its focus on preparing the Super Eagles for the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the remaining 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification matches. Dr. Sanusi reiterated the federation’s commitment to supporting the team and ensuring their success on the pitch.

By debunking the ban reports, the NFF aims to put the focus back on the team’s performance and progress, rather than unfounded rumors and speculation.

The federation’s swift response demonstrates its dedication to maintaining a positive and productive relationship with the media and the public.”
