Breaking: Ihedioha resigns from PDP

The former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, has left the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP.

Ihedioha noted a misalignment between his own views and the current trajectory of the main opposition party in his resignation letter to the PDP chairman in Mbutu Ward, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of the state.

Despite his decision to leave the PDP, the former governor stated that he remained committed to the nation’s democratic and good governance advancements.

As a party member since its founding in 1998, Ihedioha claims to have made significant contributions to the party’s development.

The former governor, however, expressed regret over recent PDP developments, claiming that the party had strayed from its fundamental beliefs.

He expressed worries about the party’s incapacity to implement internal reforms, adhere to its own rules, and successfully challenge the All Progressives Congress, or APC, in power.

“Unfortunately, the party has been moving in a direction that is inconsistent with my personal values in recent times. Unfortunately, the party is no longer able to implement internal changes, uphold its own regulations, or present a strong defence against the ruling All Progressives Congress, despite my best efforts to provide advice.

In view of the aforementioned, I am forced to submit my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party, which will take effect right away.

Even though I had to make a difficult decision, I think it was the right one. In spite of my resignation, I’ll always be willing to lend a hand in advancing Nigeria’s democracy and sound administration, the letter continued.
