PDP To Elect New Chairman In August

In August 2024, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will hold elections to choose a new National Chairman.

This statement comes after party stakeholders opted to prolong Umar Damagum’s term as the acting national chairman of the party during yesterday’s 98th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

This information was provided to media yesterday during a press briefing in Abuja by Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State and chairman of the PDP Governors Forum.

“Over the next two months, there will be a lot going on. Being a leader comes with responsibilities,” he stated. We declared in September that we would have concluded our conferences.

“We shall examine the matter of leadership and the location of our constitution, and we shall do so without animosity.”

Mohammed stressed that the party’s NEC meeting went off without a hitch, proving there was no animosity or conflict among the leaders.

“There was supposed to be an explosion during the celebration. PDP is more than that; we have transcended these quirks. This party is unified under the direction of constitutionality and experience.

“Out there, there were lots of combinations and cunning ideas. However, we considered every aspect and followed our policies and constitution. According to the PDP chieftain, there are no issues or conflicts among the members.

Damagum, the acting national chairman, stated in his speech that holding the position of party leader was not a life-or-death struggle.

This is not a life-or-death situation. I remain a member of this NEC by election. I remain a member of NWC even if I go back to being the deputy national chairman. It never comes up whether you survive or not,” he remarked.
