After witnessing what she did during the EndSARS demonstration, well-known Nollywood actress Ronke Oshodi Oke stated she regretted supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nigerian youths demonstrated in October 2020 against the Nigeria Police Force’s special anti-robbery squad (SARS), which has since been abolished.
Police brutality was condemned by the protesters. They used the chance to press the political elite for better leadership.
In a recent interview, Ronke identified herself as an APC fan. Chude Jideonwo.
The governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu,’s actions during the demonstration, she claimed, left her disillusioned despite her support for the APC throughout the campaign.
The filmmaker, 48, said that the “governor was saying three different things” and insisted that no one was hurt.
I cherish APC. APC has my heart and soul. I had the impression that the APC would move Nigeria forward, she remarked.
So even during our campaign for them, I didn’t raise much money. Instead of focusing on the money, I was considering what might happen later.
“After seeing what they had been doing, I concluded that eight years couldn’t fix Nigeria. That is common knowledge. But I was very depressed when the EndSARS demonstration was mentioned.
“Our governor was stating three things at once, and I was really, really depressed. They said they didn’t murder any people.
“However,if one person died, fifty people have died with that one person. The people that person is feeding, are their parents, and siblings.
“It might take five years for them to rebuild their lives and get back on their feet. It is a mental construct. Second, there were a lot of wounds.
“I observed some guys who were unable to use their legs, and some people had bullet wounds. So many wounds. I won’t say I was angry, but I was definitely depressed. Just for that, I regretted working with them.
The actress, whose real name is Ibironke Ojo-Anthony, started out in theatre with a group named “Star Parade.”
She gained notoriety in 2000 as a result of her appearance in the film “Oshodi Oke,” from which she adopted her stage name.
