The main opposition parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) have accused the President Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of enacting anti-people policies that have made it difficult for many people to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir as Nigerians celebrate it.
The criticisms from the PDP and LP, which came on the day that President Tinubu completed one month in office, prompted an immediate response from the Presidency, which accused the PDP of being jealous of Tinubu’s accomplishments in three weeks, claiming the president accomplished in three weeks what the PDP could not do in 16 years.
A highly symbolic Islamic tradition and festival, Eid al-Adha, also known as Eid-el-Kabir or the Feast of Sacrifice, honors Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in compliance with Allah’s mandate.
The PDP warns APC and FG over their anti-people policies.
The PDP congratulated Nigerians on Eid-el-Kabir and warned the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Federal Government it controls against imposing anti-people policies on Nigerians. It also urged the populace to take advantage of the holy occasion to pray fervently for the triumph of justice and the will of the Almighty Allah in the country’s affairs.
In addition, the PDP praised Nigerians for their fortitude in the face of “most harrowing economic hardship under the APC Federal Government” and asked them to continue to do so.
In a similar vein, the ruling APC asked Nigerians to continue supporting President Tinubu as he moves to reposition the country for swift economic growth and moral greatness.
The PDP urged Nigerians not to let the hardship and sense of uncertainty they are currently experiencing cause them to lose sight of the true meaning of Eid al-Kabir, which is the demand for complete surrender to Allah’s will, authority, and command in all matters of life. This was stated in a statement by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Debo Ologunagba.
“The APC-led Federal Government continues to impose life discounting policies, with associated misery, on the people without credible plans for relief, which the PDP deems as heartbreaking given that Nigerians are currently going through the most terrible economic difficulties.
“Our party is very concerned about the deepening economic crisis, the skyrocketing price of necessary goods and services, the collapse of the purchasing power of the American people, and scorching economic distress on millions of families across the country.
It is saddening that millions of Nigerians are commemorating the holiday in frustration because they cannot afford the requirements to celebrate with their loved ones on such a joyous occasion.
Due to hardships and insensitive policies implemented by the APC government, many people are unable to show their love by visiting or even sharing with their family and friends.
However, the PDP exhorts Nigerians to use the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to enhance their bonds of affection, support, and care for one another at this crucial moment rather than giving up.
—Presidency PDP envious of Tinubu’s accomplishments in three weeks
The Presidency dismissed the PDP’s claim that the President Tinubu-led APC Federal Government was enacting anti-people policies, saying PDP was jealous of the ruling party’s accomplishments within three weeks.
According to the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, Mr. Dele Alake, it was also expected that the PDP, which was in charge of the government for 16 years and was allegedly incapable of managing it, would say even worse things in the days to come.
“They (PDP) will say that, and they will even say worse,” Alake remarked. They are being quite polite with that. We anticipate them to say worse since during their whole tenure in office, they lacked the guts, brainpower, ingenuity, and foresight necessary to carry out or accomplish what the administration has in only three short weeks.
“The Bola Ahmed Tinubu government accomplished what they failed to do throughout their 16 years as the country’s president in just three short weeks. What then do you anticipate them to say?
“They must feel jealous because they lacked the ability to think clearly, the physical strength, and the administrative know-how to accomplish those audacious ambitions. Thus, it is both natural and normal. The information they have provided is not new, in my opinion. It is anticipated.
Nigerians sigh as Tinubu’s government lives in luxury – LP
With its lengthy procession of vehicles and bloated bureaucracy, LP, for its part, criticized President Tinubu’s administration for displaying early indicators of carrying on “the wasteful lifestyle” of its predecessor.
Obiora Ifoh, the party’s acting national publicity secretary, made this statement in an interview with Vanguard yesterday in Abuja.
He argued that it is ridiculous that a government whose legitimacy is currently being contested in court would demand of Nigerians that they “tighten their belts and make sacrifices” when they were living in luxury.
Ifoh said: “It is sad that less than a month after temporarily gaining office, the APC administration, which is still battling for legitimacy in court, has caused agony and suffering to Nigerians.
“This administration has overseen increases in the price of gasoline at the pump, electricity rates, and vehicle registration, among other things, but has refused to lower the cost of running the country.”President Bola Tinubu was welcomed upon his recent return from a professional and personal trip abroad.by a convoy of over 100 vehicles fueled by taxpayers’ money.
“We are confident that a lengthy list of levies will soon be implemented solely to gather money to support the lifestyles of those in power at the expense of regular Nigerians.
According to the policies of the current administration, the ruling party wants to make life more difficult for regular Nigerians because more people will undoubtedly live in poverty as a result of the loss of more jobs and the failure of more businesses due to the rising costs of energy and transportation. We beg Nigerians not to give up because assistance is on the way. We continue to believe that justice will ultimately win and that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Bold measures being taken by Tinubu to reposition Nigeria — APC
In the meantime, the APC congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, the Islamic festival of sacrifice, especially the Muslim faithful, and asked them to support President Tinubu’s administration because the leader is taking audacious and daring action to reposition the nation.
In addition to emphasizing the importance of self-sacrifice on Eid al-Kabir, according to APC spokesman Felix Morka, it also highlights Allah’s limitless ability and readiness to provide for humanity.
“This year’s festivities remarkably fall during a time when our dear President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is taking some brave and decisive steps to reposition our beloved country for rapid economic growth and wholesome greatness, in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope agenda. As we continue to fight for a better Nigeria, we implore Nigerians to embrace the virtues of patience and sacrifice, Morka stated.
