Next week, a petition contesting the win of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu will be the subject of the start of their defense.
In the election, Tinubu defeated Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who received 6,101,533 votes, and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 6,984,520 votes.
Following the election, petitions were submitted to the tribunal by Obi, Atiku, and their respective parties. In addition, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) submitted a petition and concluded its investigation after consulting one witness.
After calling 27 witnesses, Atiku and the PDP concluded their case, while Obi and the LP withdrew their case after calling 13 witnesses.
Instead of presenting their case on June 31 as originally scheduled, the attorneys decided to delay it until after the Muslim holiday during the most recent tribunal session.
Wole Olanipekun, Tinubu’s lawyer, stated, “My lords, we all took into consideration some salient factors, especially the fact that some of us will love to travel to celebrate with our families and loved ones.”
The application was granted, and the case was postponed until July 3 by the five-member justice panel, presided over by Harunna Tsammani.
It is anticipated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would first give its defense.
