Inibehe Effiong, a human rights lawyer has issued a warning to the Nigerian military against interfering in the upcoming protest.
Following a recent warning from Defence headquarters that those mobilising for a nationwide protest that it will not condone anarchy.
The legal analyst asserted that they have no business issuing a statement on a civil matter, stating that nobody should be intimidated by their threat.
The planned nationwide protest tagged #EndBadGovernance, is scheduled to take place from August 1 to August 10, 2024, with organisers citing inflation and hunger in the country.
The military, during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, said it uncovered plots by unscrupulous elements to hijack the protest and turn it into a violent one by attacking innocent Nigerians and their businesses.
Effiong, a human rights lawyer, in a post on his X handle on Thursday, said soldiers should stay in their barracks and stay out of politics.
He said: “The Nigerian military has no business issuing a statement on a civil matter.
“Nobody will be intimidated by your threat.
“Soldiers should stay in their barracks and stay out of politics.”
