Just in: Nigerian governors in closed door meeting in Abuja

Nigerian governors from 36 states under the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) have gathered in Abuja for a crucial meeting.

The governor’s forum is aimed to deliberate on President Bola Tinubu’s recent approval of a N70,000 minimum wage. The meeting, held at the NGF secretariat, will focus on the governors’ response to this new policy and its potential impact on their states.

The NGF meeting in addition to the new minimum is also expected to address two contentious issues: the proposed nationwide protest against bad governance and the recent Supreme Court’s ruling on local government autonomy.

As the forum’s first public session since the minimum wage announcement, this meeting presents a crucial opportunity for governors to engage in meaningful discussions, forge a collective response to these challenges, and outline a path forward for effective governance.
