Just in: Activist Verydarkman arrested for alleged defamation

Internet personality and social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, fondly called VeryDarkMan has been apprehended by the Nigerian police.

Mr Deji Adeyanju,  his lawyer on Sunday revealed that his client has been rearrested, adding that VeryDarkMan was arrested for exposing someone who allegedly duped a Nigerian abroad.

 

Mr Adeyanju disclosed this via his post  on his X account on Sunday, according to Adeyanju , “Our client, @thatverydarkman has just been arrested by the police on the instruction of CP Igwe for exposing someone who allegedly duped a Nigerian abroad.

 

It came to light  that the influencer was arrested on the orders of Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Mr Benneth Igwe.

 

 

Recall that Verydark man was initially arrested on  22 May 2024 on five accounts for cyberstalking. Federal High Court in Abuja therefore granted bail to the activist on Monday 10, 2024.

 

The social media influencer was subsequently released from police custody after satisfying his bail condition.

 

The police prosecuting team told Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court that they needed more time to respond to the application and they were subsequently obliged by the court.

 

The police prosecution moved to have the activist and social media influence remanded in prison but his lawyers made an application for him to be kept in police custody.

 

The court granted their request and he was subsequently taken to the National Cybercrime Centre.
