River state governor, Sim Fubara has clarified that he is not engaged in fighting anyone insist on upholding constitution.
He made this remark amid his fallout with loyal chairmen of the former governor currently Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Fubara further explained that he’s only defending himself and the state from aggressors.
Speaking at the state capital, Port Harcourt yesterday, Fubara expressed concern over attempt to undermine the constitution by enlogating the tenure of local government chairmen stressing that it will not be applicable in the state.
He also called for a check on such plots to undermine the constitution to serve some vested interests.
Fubara questioned: “Where on earth has the tenure of local government chairmen been elongated?
“Is it that the constitution that governs Nigeria is different from the one that operates in Rivers State?
“These are pertinent questions we should ask, why should it be that when it comes to Rivers State the law is always silent?
“Is it that there is somebody bigger than Nigeria? That’s the question I want you to go with
“I’m the only Governor that local government chairmen will abuse, and I overlook it because at the end of the day nobody will look at the fight but your achievements.
“I know that all those things are distractions, so I need to focus and make sure no matter how difficult and challenging the situation is, I must deliver to the people of Rivers State.”
Fubara emphasised that the past local government chairmen in the state had engaged in a face-off following his refusal to elongate their tenure.
While the council chairmen loyal to Wike demanded to remain in office, Fubara has sworn-in caretaker chairmen.
