Truth Revealed: Finidi never accused Osimhen of lack of commitment, says Colin Udoh

Renowned journalist and sports presenter, Colin Udoh, has cleared the air on the alleged rift between former Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, and striker Victor Osimhen. Udoh’s authoritative confirmation has put to rest the controversy that had been brewing in the Nigerian football scene.

Udoh took to his Instagram page to set the record straight, stating that he had verified the information through reliable sources who attended the meeting between Finidi, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and the sports minister. He also revealed that he had spoken directly with Finidi, who denied making any derogatory comments about Osimhen’s commitment and discipline.

According to Udoh, Finidi explained that he had been adequately briefed by Osimhen and his doctor regarding his injury, which had ruled him out of the World Cup qualifiers. Finidi had excused Osimhen from the matches, and there was no truth to the allegations that he had accused the player of lacking commitment or being above discipline.

Udoh’s investigation revealed that Finidi’s comments about not begging players to play for the Super Eagles were taken out of context. Finidi had merely stated that he would not beg any player to represent the national team, but this was not directed at Osimhen specifically.

The controversy had started when Osimhen responded angrily to reports that Finidi had criticized him, with the player appearing in an Instagram live video to lambast the former coach. However, with Udoh’s confirmation, it is now clear that Finidi had not made any such comments.

In a related development, Udoh also revealed that Finidi’s resignation as Super Eagles coach was due to the NFF’s decision to appoint a technical adviser without his knowledge or consent. Finidi felt that the move signified a lack of trust in his abilities and decided to step down.

This development has put the controversy surrounding Finidi’s alleged remarks and Osimhen’s response. The Nigerian football community can now focus on the upcoming matches and the team’s preparations, without the distraction of this unnecessary controversy.
