Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has refuted internet rumours claiming that his administration had borrowed N10 billion from foreign entities thus far.
According to an earlier allegation, the governor allegedly obtained loans totaling N10,022,382,348.40 billion from various foreign entities and organisations in 2023.
In response, Governor Adeleke refuted the report in a statement released on Monday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, stating he hasn’t borrowed a kobo since the beginning of his administration.
The governor labelled the article as fraudulent and declared that he has never, ever “taken any loan either through a resolution of the State Executive Council or that of the State House of Assembly” since taking office.
He clarified that the World Bank development financing mentioned in the report, which he claimed was carried over from earlier administrations, was actually loans.
The governor required that special project accounts established by the state government be used to finance all projects carried out in the state, including the dualization of roads, overhead bridges, schools, health centre renovations, and several road projects.
“A number of World Bank projects that have helped so many people and are already well-known throughout the Federation will not be abandoned by a responsible government.
We reiterate that since taking office, Governor Adeleke has not borrowed a kobo. The announcement also stated that contracts and inherited obligations may not be included in the Governor of the Year on Infrastructure category.
