Alleged Suspension: My suspension is Illegal – Okugbe fumes

The State House of Assembly member for Akoko-Edo II (PDP), Donald Okogbe, has voiced his disapproval of his suspension.

The speaker of the Edo Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku Agbebaku, accused Okogbe, an ally of former deputy governor of Edo state Philip Shaibu, of being swayed by outside influences to destabilise the assembly and overthrow the leadership.

Okogbe was also charged with summoning indigenous doctors into the home at midnight on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, in order to perform certain incantations and drop charms in the assembly complex, along with Hon. Bright Iyamu (Orihonmwon South) (PDP) and Hon. Adeh Isibor, Esan North East I (APC).

In response, Okogbe stated on Monday that their suspension would not stand and that the suspension’s due process had not been followed.

The move for suspension is unlawful since all decisions made by the house of assembly must be made through resolutions, in accordance with the country’s constitution and house rules.

“Resolution stating that a motion must be made, seconded by a second party, and a resolution shall be reached on the basis of that; however, in this instance, the Speaker simply entered, sat in the red chair, and declared that the three of us were suspended; no motion was made, no second party was found, and because he disregarded due process, there was no voting on the issue, there was a commotion, and the Speaker hurriedly adjourned even though no new motion for adjournment was made.”

Regarding the alleged juju scare, Okogbe stated, “He informed me last week that he had a video showing a member entering the house late at night with someone who looked like a juju man, and the member said he came to check his Hilux parked because he got information that his driver normally comes to carry the vehicle at odd hours and that he only came to check.

” Meanwhile, he was being followed to the compound by a constituent who saw him, followed him there, and prayed for him, a constituent of his observed him travelling and followed him to the compound, where he prayed and received good wishes with a kolanut, saying, “This has nothing to do with me at all.”
