World Press Freedom Day- ‘Stray bullet’ hits journalist inside Kano Government House

Naziru Idris Yau, a journalist for Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV), was shot by a stray bullet while inside the Kano state government house.

The event happened on Friday night at approximately 6:30 p.m.

It was said that the journalist was taken right away for treatment at the government house facility.

The journalist was fortunate, according to the clinic’s medical staff, that the bullet was not fired at close range.

Following treatment at the site of the injury, the journalist was released.

Although the source of the stray bullet has not yet been determined, police officers stationed at the government house have started an inquiry.

Regarding the occurrence, an official statement from the Kano state administration has not yet been released.

The incident highlights the dangers Nigerian journalists endure. It occurred on World Press Freedom Day in 2024.

Police are currently holding Daniel Ojukwu, a journalist for the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), on suspicion of “cybercrime.”

Since May 1, Ojukwu has been detained by the police.
