Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi state who just left office, has stated that he is eager to appear in court.
But he did admit that he fears being arrested.
Bello stated that he is prepared to appear in court at the Federal High Court in Abuja on the 19-count indictment that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought against him.
His attorney, Adeola Adedipe, SAN, stated that although his client was concerned about being arrested, he would have gone in court.
“The defendant wants to come to court, but he is afraid that an arrest warrant is pending against him,” the speaker stated.
He requested that the exparte warrant of arrest that the court had earlier placed on the former governor be revoked.
Adedipe said that at the time the arrest warrant was issued, the charge had not been legally served on his client.
He pointed out that the court had only approved the defendant’s substituted service of the charge through his attorney at the Tuesday’s resumed hearings.
Because the order for alternative service had not been made at the time the warrant was issued. I just placed the order this morning.
The defendant’s attorney continued, “A warrant of arrest shouldn’t be hanging around his neck when we leave this court.”
