Update: Another Judge Reverses Ganduje’s APC Suspension

A Kano high court has issued an order stopping the suspension of All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje from the party.

Justice A.M. Liman issued this interim ruling in response to an ex parte motion filed by Ganduje, wherein he sought to enforce his fundamental right to a fair hearing.

The suspension was first imposed on April 15 by APC executives in Dawakin ward, Tofa LGA of Kano, following allegations of corruption.

The Kano State APC working committee swiftly overturned this local party action, which also disciplined the ward executives involved in Ganduje’s suspension. Nevertheless, Justice Usman Na’Abba of the Kano High Court had previously upheld the suspension, adding to the legal and political complexities.

In addition to prominent national security organisations like the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ganduje’s application listed the respondents as members of local party officials.

Ganduje’s suspension is no longer being enforced temporarily according to Justice Liman’s order, which also stipulates that no further action should be taken until the case is heard in full and a decision is rendered.

“That all the parties are hereby required to maintain status quo prior to the alleged emergency meeting of the APC Ganduje Ward executive members, and to refrain from taking any further action regarding this matter until the substantive application has been heard and decided upon,” Liman stated.

The judge then scheduled Ganduje’s appeal hearing for April 30.
