DNA: Court to use alternative methods to serve Mohbad’s wife

The Chief Magistrate Court in Ikorodu has approved the directive to serve Wunmi, the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad’s wife, with notice of the pending DNA test application by other methods.

According to a statement which was signed by a member of the legal team and addressed to the Aloba family, Monisola Odumosu.

The family requested an order to serve Wunmi by posting all of the originating proceedings and other processes in the litigation on the respondent’s last-known address in an application that the legal team sent to Joseph Aloba, the late singer’s father.

The statement claimed that the Emmanuel Oroko-led legal team had contended that the sheriff had made two attempts toserve Wunmi the court process but failed.

According to Odumosu, “it would constitute good service and she would be aware of the pending suit if the process were served on the respondent’s last-known address by order of the court.” The respondent will be served by posting the court process at her last known address, per the Chief Magistrate’s order, which was approved.

Recall that the Aloba family filed an application with the Family Court to challenge Liam’s paternity and requested an order compelling Wunmi to appear with Liam at any approved laboratory in Lagos to submit to a DNA test.

The statement also mentioned that the singer’s wife declared she was prepared for a DNA test in a widely shared video.

Taiwo Olawanle, Wunmi’s attorney, denied knowing about the court order when contacted.

“We don’t have the court order,” he declared. We will advise her to follow any orders if we have them. That poses no issue. However, we are not aware of any such order. That’s what I just heard from you.

On September 12, 2023, Mohbad passed away at the age of 27, and the circumstances surrounding his passing sparked debates on social media.

Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s Marlian Music record label, departed the label in February 2022. A 13-person special investigation team was established by the Lagos State Police Command on September 18, 2023, to look into the singer’s death.
