The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, should be suspended, according to a meeting held on Thursday by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the party’s Abuja headquarters.
In addition, Umar Damagun’s resignation as the PDP’s acting national chair was demanded by the group.
Before the PDP’s planned national executive council (NEC) meeting, the group came at the party’s headquarters and demanded that Wike be suspended for alleged anti-party conduct.
Damagun and Wike have “undermined our collective efforts and jeopardised our very existence as a formidable opposition force,” according to Usman Seidu, the group’s convener, who was speaking with reporters.
“We express our gratitude to Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, our former National Chairman, for his steadfast devotion to our party and his decision to withdraw all ongoing legal actions against it,” Seidu stated.
“His deeds have cleared the path for our great party to advance, purify our ranks, and give our leadership its integrity back.
But the existence of people like Mr. Nyesom Wike and Amb. Iliya Damagun among us continues to be a malignant tumour on our party.
Their acts, which amount to treason, have damaged our group’s efforts and put our very survival as a potent opposition force in jeopardy.
“The NEC needs to take serious action now. It is necessary to dismiss Amb. Iliya Damagun from his role as acting national chairman.
“A devoted member from the north central area who personifies the essence of our party and is willing to put in endless effort to further its goals must take his position.
Furthermore, we are unable to ignore Mr. Nyesom Wike’s ongoing presence inside our ranks. His position as minister of the Federal Capital Territory, which he received substantial compensation for his infatuation with the APC, is a slap in the face to all of our party’s devoted members.
“The party runs the risk of losing the confidence and support of its devoted members across the nation if it does not act decisively against those who have betrayed our trust.”
Wike was present at the PDP’s national caucus meeting on Wednesday.
