The remaining three bodies of the victims of a boat accident that happened on Wednesday along the River Niger’s shoreline have been found, according to the Anambra State Police Command.
This came as the command advised all water commuters to exercise caution and abstain from actions that could endanger their own safety as well as the safety of others while on the water.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesperson, revealed this in a press release on Friday.
Junior Pope, a well-known Nollywood actor, and four other people were officially pronounced deceased in the boat accident on April 10.
The sad incident happened when the boat—one of two that transported a film crew to a film site in the state’s Anambra West Local Government Area—was making its way back to Asaba, Delta State, its takeoff place.
Because of this, the Nigerian Actors Guild banned its members from participating in any film project that featured river scenes or boat excursions.
According to Ikenga, the three surviving victims of the tragic boat accident were found dead late on Thursday by the Marine Police of the Anambra State Command.
“On Thursday, April 11, 2024, the two bodies were recovered, and this morning the last washed in by the tide,” he stated.
“The Guild of Actors and Actresses President has been informed of the recovery, and all of the bodies have been placed in the Asaba hospital mortuary.
“The CP pledged to look into the tragic event that killed five performers as soon as possible. He also praised the Commander and Marine Unit of the Command for their commitment to duty.
