Police retaliate as gunmen open fire on station in Bayelsa

An attack by alleged gunmen was thwarted by police officers stationed at the Nigerian Police Force’s Ogbia Divisional Headquarters in the Bayelsa State’s Ogbia Local Government Area.

The suspected gunmen opened fire on the police officers on duty at the Ogbia Divisional Headquarters on Monday at 2.30 am to rob them of their firearms, according to Bayelsa Police spokesman Asinim Butswat.

Butswat claimed that the brave police officers repulsed the assault, forcing the attackers to flee through the waterways and retreat. He also noted that no lives were lost in the attack.

The Marine Police, tactical squads, and other security organizations have been informed. Security personnel are working nonstop to track down and apprehend the offenders. The spokesperson, a Superintendent of Police, stated that the investigation is still ongoing.
