Rufai Oseni, a well-known TV broadcaster in Nigeria, expressed surprise and displeasure when President Bola Tinubu eliminated fuel subsidies without first obtaining a strategy for how to handle the consequences.
He was responding to Tinubu’s assertion that he had announced the elimination of the fuel subsidy out of bravery.
Recall that Tinubu had declared that the abolition of the fuel subsidy would not be included in his inauguration speech on May 29, 2023.
When I was chosen as the winner, I felt so happy that I almost passed out. Tinubu had remarked. Several buddies came over. I responded by asking, “What do you do with this trophy, this victory, which you asked me to bring?” I won. Nigeria must adapt alongside us.
“And after putting my speech together without the subsidy question, Wale Edun and I started debating. When I arrived at the podium, I exclaimed, “The subsidy is gone,” feeling brave.
Oseni tweeted in response to Tinubu’s assertion: “It is shocking to note that subsidies was eliminated without a plan.
The “subsidy is gone thing” was declared in a supposedly brave gesture. “Courage without planning is dangerous. Do we know how much hardship we have thrown the people into?” was the statement made.
