Afrobeat singer, Damini Ogulu who goes by the stage name Burna Boy, won the “Best International Act” honor at the 2023 BET Awards, which were presented on Sunday night in Los Angeles, California.
To win the prize, the ‘Last Last’ crooner outperformed his fellow countrywoman Ayra Starr, British musicians Ella Mai, Stormzy, and Central Cee, as well as French vocalist Aya Nakamura.
Burna Boy’s achievement increased his record for receiving the most awards in the “Best International Act” category of the BET Awards (4).
Davido was the first winner of the BET Awards’ “Best International Act” category, which was introduced in 2018 and has since only been won by Nigerian performers.
Tems, a rising sensation in Nigerian music, was named “Best International Act” the previous year.
Last night, Cameroonian superstar Libianca won the “Best New International” award instead of Nigerian artist Asake.
